Name that musical... but not really.

"They call you lady luck.  But there is room for doubt.
At times you have a very unladylike way of running out!"

Once upon a time, July 13th 2012 to be precise, I went on a bike ride with my SIL and friend Candice Mae Porter.  We planned this ride with Nick and his dad, but they both bailed out on us.  One for legitimate reasons and one for fear of rain!  We started the morning by driving, and driving some more until we reached our destination.  We parked at the post office.

Then the rain really began to fall hard.  We toughed it out.  We rode and rode for 2+ hours in that rain.  We climbed hills and then climbed some more hills.  At last we reached the turn around point.  We began a big descent and then... I got a flat!  We stopped and I changed it very slowly as I always do:)  We continued on.  Soon Candice got a flat she changed it slowly because she is like me at changing tires.  We rode on again and she got a second flat.  We were tubeless now.  So I rode the rest of the way to the car and returned to pick her up.  Somehow along the way I got grease and dirt all over myself.

We made it back to town and we were wet and dirty, but satisfied with ourselves.  It was a good ride that day.

But we did have some pretty CRAZY hair... especially me!

We'll call it random Tuesday

Late Sunday night we returned form our Route 66 bike ride.  It was great and I will be posting about it as soon as I play catch up on some other blogs.

Since we've been home I have spent an amazingly large amount of time doing homework with kids!  It gets kind of crazy sometimes helping out with three sets of work at the same time.  Apparently no one here understands the idea of taking turns.  They would rather bombard me with all of their questions at the same time.

My iphone 5 came today!!! I was SO happy to see this little beauty show up at my front door this morning.  Best of all it was over a week sooner than I expected:)  SO glad to get rid of my cracked old 3Gs.

Finally, this is what's distracting me from cleaning the house and getting the laundry put away.  I'm getting all prepped for my upcoming Grand Canyon trip by reading this book. Less than two weeks now and I'll be back in my favorite place!

9.19.2005

Happy Birthday to Channing!  Today he turns seven years old and I can't believe how time flies.  He has been my hardest kid and he has been my easiest kid too!  He has patiently waited, watched, and planned while all the other kids have had their birthdays and now it's finally his time to shine.  His day has just begun and I hope its a good one.  His requests were to have a family breakfast, eat dinner at Paradise Bakery, and have a Super Mario cake.  I'll update later with a picture of the cake... which I'm still working on:)

Here it is...

In all my glory

Confession - In the last six weeks i have had 3 (count 'em 3!) clumsy embarrassing accidents.  This is a photo of number three...

I was walking and I fell down. Wait... it gets better: I was walking down a set of outdoor stairs at the mall!  Luckily when I tripped I grabbed the railing and just sort of sank down to my knees instead of tumbling all the way down them.  Oh and it was night and the mall was closing so no one saw:)

I don't have any photos to document the other incidents but I will share. First I slipped in a puddle of water on my tile floor while I was carrying the baby.  I saved her but in doing so I landed all of my weight on my elbow and hip.  I laid on the ground for awhile on this one.  I really though my arm was broken.  Seriously!  Oh and and while I was lying there I yelled at my kids about wiping up/ telling me about spills.  Apparently they all knew the water was there but didn't say anything!  My elbow was messed up for about three weeks and sore for maybe another.  It just recently started feeling normal again.

I saved the best for last, and by best I mean most embarrassing.  Farrah sleeps in a portable crib in my walk-in closet.  (Don't ask, that's a whole different story).  Anyway, she woke up in the middle of the night crying.  I got up to get her and ran smack into the wall.  I woke up Nick when I screamed "Oh my gosh I think I broke my nose!!!"  It hurt so badly.  It was worse than any pain I've had in the last 10 years aside from child birth.  I had to ice it just to be able to get back to sleep.  I had a nice bruise on the bridge of my nose when I woke up.  Thank goodness it wasn't broken.  I wasn't sure how it was going to come out there for awhile:)

There you have it... Top those embarrassing injuries!

Five things for Friday

I really need to post about our fun Labor Day weekend at the lake.  We had a really good time.  It was definitely one of our favorite years.  So much nicer than last year with a week old baby! I will get to it but there are still a few things I want to post from before this and I'd like to try to keep it in order.

This is to remind me of another post I need to make.  My dad got remarried last weekend and here is my hair to prove it:)  It was a really nice day, a little hard, but also fun.  I am really glad that he is so happy.  I am looking forward to hearing about their cruise to Alaska. I think they get home tomorrow!

I had to document the painful filling of the gas tank!

Remember the painful homework I mentioned in my last post?  Well here is the proof.  We did this for hours to complete a special project "All About Me".  We were both overjoyed when it was done and turned in yesterday!!!

My baby is growing up.  She chewed her first piece of gum this morning!  Her big sister got into my purse helped herself to gum and then decided to share.  Luckily I caught her before she swallowed.  Oh my what will they come up with next???

Some days...

I want to do this.  Just throw a blanket over my head and forget about everything.  If only it were actually that easy for me to tune out!
It's been a week full of busy days, sick kids, a sore throat, homework angst, 2 kids immunizations, bike rides that don't turn out the way I was anticipating, chore strikes, Nick spending his (much anticipated  by me) day off at a meeting in Tempe, should I go on?  The sad thing is this week isn't even over yet!  I sure hope it gets better.  I hate feeling frustrated and frazzled like I have lately.

On a funnier note there is a story behind this picture... one that doesn't really have to do with me hiding from the world:)  A few weeks ago Nick decided to let the kids watch Jurassic Park.  We went the rounds on whether or not it was too scary and Daddy won in the end, which means they watched it.  The boys have actually become kind of weirdly obsessed with the movie, and dinosaurs in general because of it.  Anyway, the girls decided that Jurassic Park for the third time was too much.  They covered their heads and watched something sweet and happy on the ipad instead.

The little things...

It's all about the little things right?.. like this photo of Rand's cute feet with mine.  I am looking at this right now and remembering how sweet that boy can be when he wants to.  I need that on days like this when he is already spending some "alone time" in his bedroom and it is only 8:15 AM!  On top of that I have to take him to get immunizations this morning.  Wish me luck!

BIrthday Plans

We are coming up on our last kid birthday for the year next week.  Poor Channing has to wait through all the other birthdays to get to his.  He handles it like a champ though.  This year he claims he wants to go to the rainforest cafe.  We walked by it a few months ago and his mind has been set ever since.  I hope it doesn't disappoint!
